Large Gas Disks in Radiogalaxies

چکیده

Large-scale (up to 100 kpc) H I structures have been found in three radio galaxies using the WSRT and the VLA. In one case, the H I has been detected in emission while in the other two H I absorption is detected against the radio lobes. In at least two of the three studied radio galaxies the H I appears to be distributed in a large disk and the large amount of neutral gas detected (> ∼ 10 M⊙) indicates that it is resulting from mergers of gas-rich galaxies. The relatively regular structure and kinematics of these disks suggest that the merger must have happened more than 10 yrs ago, therefore supporting the idea that the radio activity starts late after the merger. In these low redshift radio galaxies we may witness the processes that are more efficiently and frequently happening at high-z.

On the nature of optical nuclei in FR I radio - galaxies from ACS / HST imaging polarimetry ⋆

We obtained optical imaging polarimetry with the ACS/HRC aboard the HST of the 9 closest radiogalaxies in the 3C catalogue with an FR I morphology. The nuclear sources seen in direct HST images in these galaxies are found to be highly polarized with levels in the range ∼ 2 11 % with a median value of 7 %. We discuss the different mechanisms that produce polarized emission and conclude that the ...

Received ; accepted – 2 – ABSTRACT Supernova explosions, and winds and energetic photon fluxes from young star clusters drive outflows and supersonic turbulence in the interstellar medium in galaxy disks, and provide broad spectrum heating which generates a wide range of thermal phases in the gas. Star formation, the source of the energy inputs, is itself regulated by heating and phase exchange...

The black hole mass of low redshift radiogalaxies

We make use of two empirical relations between the black hole mass and the global properties (bulge luminosity and stellar velocity dispersion) of nearby elliptical galaxies, to infer the mass of the central black hole (MBH) in low redshift radiogalaxies. Using the most recent determinations of black hole masses for inactive early type galaxies we show that the bulge luminosity and the central ...

Debris Disks in the Scorpius–centaurus Ob Association Resolved by Alma

We present a CO(2-1) and 1240μm continuum survey of 23 debris disks with spectral types B9-G1, observed at an angular resolution of 0. ′′5-1” with the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA). The sample was selected for large infrared excess and age ∼10 Myr, to characterize the prevalence of molecular gas emission in young debris disks. We identify three CO-rich debris disks, plus t...

Massive Accretion Disks

1. Abstract Recent high resolution near infrared (HST-NICMOS) and mm-interferometric imaging have revealed dense gas and dust accretion disks in nearby ultra-luminous galactic nuclei. In the best studied ultraluminous IR galaxy, Arp 220, the 2µm imaging shows dust disks in both of the merging galactic nuclei and mm-CO line imaging indicates molecular gas masses ∼10 9 M ⊙ for each disk. The two ...
